About the Company

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist who excels in a data-rich environment and enjoys extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets - you would be joining and working with our client in the agriculture industry.

Our client’s data is sourced automatically from IoT sensors, scanners, robots, and various points throughout the manufacturing process, as well as manually generated by research teams monitoring various aspects. The Senior Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in prioritizing existing data sources and spearheading the development of new data acquisition initiatives, contributing to the immediate and long-term optimization of processes. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to identify and prioritize data-driven opportunities that enhance our practices and procedures.

The Senior Data Scientist will conduct exploratory analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies to drive business value. The adaptability of our systems allows for data-driven adjustments to processes, making the Senior Data Scientist a crucial team player and communicator due to the far-reaching and multidisciplinary consequences of these decisions.

At its core, the Senior Data Scientist is someone capable of translating data into actionable results while acknowledging the constraints and opportunities inherent in any system.

This position reports to the Chief Science Officer.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in an empirical Science, Biomedicine, Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or relevant field; PhD is an asset

  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing and/or modeling data and effectively communicating results

  • Skills in experimental design and data interpretation

  • Programming Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience using R or Python for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling

  • Competence with database query languages like SQL

  • Experience working with AI and Machine Learning methods (e.g., k-Nearest Neighbors, Naive Bayes, SVM, and Decision Forests) to generate desired business outcomes

  • Data Analysis:

  • Applied statistical skills, including knowledge of statistical tests, distributions, regression, maximum likelihood estimators, etc.

  • Ability to apply advanced statistical techniques in support of scientific research studies and/or experiments

  • Experience with statistical/analytical tools like R, SPSS, JMP, MATLAB, Minitab, or SAS

  • Reporting and visualization:

  • Experience generating professional data visualizations using statistical tools and commercially available data visualization tools

  • At least 5 years of experience generating reports to explain results to technical and non-technical audiences

  • An interest in science, curiosity about the natural world, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet external and internal deadlines

  • High standards for personal deliverables

About the Role

  • Oversee data acquisition, processing, and archiving

  • Plan and document computer data file structure; develop, program, manage, and maintain complex statistical databases; supervise data entry

  • Formalize analysis plans and reporting specifications

  • Validate the reliability of measurements and identifiability of models

  • Lead analysis and interpretation of data

  • Analyze large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns

  • Utilize various modeling and in silico simulation techniques to inform high-quality business decisions and uncover low-hanging opportunities

  • Develop indices and metrics to facilitate continuous monitoring

  • Clearly and effectively communicate processes, models, and results to management and other teams at all levels

  • Distill large sets of continuous data into single values that correlate well with variables of interest

  • Collaborate with research teams and partners to identify possible interactions and efficiencies, develop testable hypotheses, support data analysis and interpretation within the Science Team, and provide data context for experiments

  • Identify opportunities for machine learning and lead the implementation of these tools within the process

  • Develop prediction systems and machine learning algorithms

  • Stay informed about current and emerging trends in analytical methods and approaches, and communicate new approaches to the Science Team

  • Actively contribute as a valued member of a dynamic research team, undertaking other related duties as required or assigned.

  • $70,000 - $80,000 CAD Per Year

  • Fully Remote as long as you can cover the EST Timezone 9AM - 5PM
